Nestled in deep woods just outside of the historic town of Camden, South Carolina, lies Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports, a place honoring it's natural habitat and offering the opportunity to learn, hone or simply enjoy superlative shooting sport. The Sporting Clays courses consist of three separate courses and stands with all automatic traps uniquely places along the ridges of the 1500 acre tract. It offers the sportsman a variety of challenging hillside and high flying shots amid a blaze of wild azaleas and dogwood trees in the spring and brilliant hickory and oaks in the fall. The trail from stand to stand is an inviting walk or golf cart accessible. Hermitage Farm is also proud to offer South Carolina's first FITASC course. This European version of sporting clays is a unique discipline that is designed to be fun as well as a true test of wingshooting. The Skeet field with it's high and low house is situated on a level plateau that will delight competitors and spectators alike. The traps situated on the high banks around the ponds offer a high overhead shot and presents the shooter with a unique opportunity to warm up for the hunting seasons with clay birds closely simulating live game. The Wobble trap is imaginatively placed below the deck of the 5 stand platform overlooking a marsh pond. Several stations offer alternative positions for the spontaneous and highly challenging clays. At the end of the day, there is hospitality at the club house, built of pine and cypress. Depending on the season, it welcomes you to sit on a shady porches overlooking the forest hillside or at the hearth of the large fireplace. It provides a perfect ending for a day of sharpening your skills in good company. This excellent combination reflects the philosophy of Hermitage Farm Shooting Sports president and resident professional, Joe Cantey. He believes that protection of the woodland setting is paramount, and the shooting areas are the best equipped and simulate natural hunting as closely as possible. Cantey was one of the founders of the South Carolina Sporting Clays Association and is an advocate of safety as a prerequisite for the sport. He, and other visiting professionals will provide a calendar of lessons, clinics and competitions to encourage juniors, women and men to enjoy the satisfying sport of shooting clays. |
